Melbourne start-up Eco Meal Prep™ has launched a new range of bento glass meal prep containers via a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign.
There’s increasing evidence that more and more Australians are opting for reusable food and drink packaging. Research from marketing intelligence agency Mintel backs this trend, finding that 32 per cent of urban Australians prefer products sold in eco-friendly packaging. Designed for meal prep and transporting food, the containers meet the increasing demand for sustainable products.
“I truly believe that the world needs these containers, starting with Australia. Just 5% of plastics are recycled effectively, while 40% end up in landfill. Buying and throwing away precooked single-use meals in plastic containers seems very convenient, but this quick fix is neither sustainable for our health nor the environment,” said James Thai, founder of Eco Meal Prep™.
The containers are made from high borosilicate glass, which is a silica-boron trioxide composite that is more thermal shock-resistant than other types of glass. They also include dividers that allow food to be separated, hinge-lock clips, and BPA-free lids. There are two sizes available: the smaller model has a 640ml capacity across two compartments, while the larger version can hold up to 860ml across three compartments.
Eco Meal Prep™ launched in 2016 with the aim of offering Australian consumers premium and convenient meal prep containers that use minimal plastic.
